Print and color a paper lady, then fill her skirt with the animals, including a: fly, spider, bird, cat, dog, cow, and horse. This craft accompanies the rhyme called “The Old Lady and the Fly”.
- Paper
- Printer
- Crayons or markers
- Scissors
- Either a stapler, glue, or a hole punch and yarn (to put the skirt together)
- Optional – A piece of acetate or other stiff, clear plastic to make the second layer of the skirt (this way, you can see the animals through the skirt)
Instructions
Print out the lady template and the animals template.
If you want to be able to see the animals when they are inside the skirt, make the second part of the skirt from acetate or other stiff, clear plastic.
Cut out the animals, the lady, and the extra skirt for the lady. Color and decorate the animals and the lady.
To connect to two parts of the lady, you can:
- Staple along the sides and bottom of her skirt,
- Glue along the sides and bottom, or
- Make a series of holes along the sides and bottom using a hole punch, then thread a length of yarn through the holes, using a sewing motion.
Remember not to close up the top of the skirt, where the animals will go in.
You can now say “The Old Lady and the Fly” rhyme while putting the animals in the old lady’s skirt. Don’t forget to write the child’s name on the craft!
